Yes, she was the color of tea, he thought to himself as he poured the steaming hot water in the cup. The water turned brown instantly as the tea bag released its aroma and flavor. He dipped the bag a few times before disposing of it in the trash and took a sip, a slight grin on his face.

Granted, he was romanticizing the entire encounter with her, but her interest was written all over her pretty little face. He couldn’t pass up finding out if that moment that he looked at her was a figment of his imagination. Her eyes were the deepest of brown, almost pitch black with dark long lashes framing the almond shape. Small round nose, pouty lips, and a rounded chin. Her face was heart-shaped and everything seemed small on her compared to him. She was small. He was a few inches taller than her, but her petite body was curvy and just right he thought. Her hair was tied in a bun on the nape of her neck, the brown strands slipping slightly out of its place. Seeing her in the dining room was that second chance he’d passed up when she’d finally walked out of the conference room. Her voice was small also, soft and breathy, a bit shakey he guessed from nerves. He made her nervous? She made him nervous, but most of all, she made him want to kiss her.

Ken had an hour to spare, so he sifted through his cellphone and pressed the call button. After three rings, she picked up.

“You do realize I’m in the middle of something, Kenny.” Her voice wasn’t as irritated as her words sounded.

“It’s important, Lou.” He laughed. “Besides, it’s only 7 pm.”

“Dinner is cooking.” He heard the slam of the oven door and laughed. “Shut up!” she laughed with him.

“I feel so sorry for Tommy.” He murmured. “He got saddled with a woman who can’t even boil water, much less heat up a simple t.v. dinner.”

“I’ll have you know that I followed a recipe and it smells amazing!” she said with pride.

“Yeah, whatever.” Ken chuckled.

“So, what’s so important.”

“I met a woman.”

“You always meet women, Kenny.” She snorted.

“No, I met “her”” he emphasized.

“Every girl you meet is “her”, Kenny, come on!”

“ No, no, no! I felt it. I felt it and so did she, Lou. How did you feel when you met, Thomas?”

“Annoyed.” She laughed.

“Okay, when you fell in love with him.”

“I don’t know, he felt…right.”

“She feels “right”…Lou, she feels “right”.”

“You just met her, Ken, How do you know she’s the “one”. It’s also Vegas for goodness sake. Don’t do anything stupid! You didn’t do anything stupid, did you?” she asked, suddenly concern in her voice.

“No!” Ken chuckled. “She’s the color of tea, Lou.” He whispered as he looked in his half empty tea cup.

“She’s green?” Lou laughed out loud at her joke.

“Shut up.” Annoyed, Ken blew out a breathe. “She feels right, I felt it, Lou. I felt it.”

“Then, take it slow, Ken. I don’t want you hurt like before.” She whispered.

“No, this isn’t remotely like Sara, Lou. This is on some next level mess. Something I can’t wrap my head around and it’s scaring the crap out of me, yet making me happy and excited at the same time!” he inhaled deeply. “Shit, I have to go, I’m meeting her in fifteen minutes. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Wait, Ken!”

“What?”

“The color of tea?” she whispered. “Ken…”

“I don’t care…bye.” He hung up the phone and hurried out of his hotel room, pushing his sisters unsaid words to another part of his mind. He didn’t want to think about it. He wasn’t going to think about it. This was right now and that was the past.
